Palazzo Stratti was completed in 1839 and a large, prestigious coffee house in the Viennese tradition was opened on its ground floor, named after the many mirrors ("Specchi", the epitome of luxury at the time) built into its interior.

Der Salon von Triest

Das Kaffeehaus entwickelte sich auf Anhieb zu einem beliebten Treffpunkt der vornehmen Triestiner Gesellschaft. Später trafen sich hier auch viele in Triest lebende Literaten, unter ihnen Italo Svevo und James Joyce. Heute gehört das Kaffeehaus der Rösterei Segafredo Zanetti aus Bologna, die hier am Hauptsitz ihres Konkurrenten Illy stärker präsent werden wollte. Nach einer umfassenden Renovierung im Jahr 2012 erstrahlt das Kaffeehaus mit dem Flair der Habsburgermonarchie in neuem Glanz. Speziell am Nachmittag und am frühen Abend gilt im Specchi mit seiner riesigen Terrasse das Motto „sehen und gesehen werden“.

Eine echte Innovation sind die vielen kleinen, feinen pikanten Gerichte, die zur Aperitifzeit angeboten werden. Unbedingt probieren!

Man trifft sich im Caffè Degli Specchi an der Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia.
